NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year earlier this week for the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season. The Flames and Lady Flames combined to claim four of the eight honors.
Pierre Chauveau was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Year and Aria Hawkins earned Women's Track Athlete of the Year recognition for the South Region. Toni Cardenas garnered Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, while Caleb Morgan was named the Women's Coach of the Year.
Chauveau was named the GSC Track Athlete of the Year after winning individual titles in the mile and 3000 meters, and anchoring the winning distance medley relay at the conference championships. Two weeks later, Chauveau anchored the Flames' DMR to seventh place at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships to earn First-Team All-America honors.
Hawkins won the 3000 meters and anchored Lee's distance medley relay to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships. Earlier in the season, Hawkins earned GSC Track Athlete of the Year honors after becoming the first athlete in conference history to win the 800 meters, mile, 3000 meters, and 5000 meters at the same conference meet.
Cardenas helped guide Hawkins to win the 3000 meters at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships. Her athletes also finished sixth in the distance medley relay at the DII nationals.
Morgan led the Lady Flames to the team title at the GSC Indoor Championships, winning nines events. Lee also finished 13
th in the team standings at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships, earning six First Team All-America honors.
Each of the eight regions – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – honored both gender's top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.
Embry-Riddle (Fla.) received the other four honors awarded in the South Region. Antonio Caito was the Men's Field Athlete of the Year with Mikaela Miles the Women's Field Athlete of the Year. The Men's Assistant Coach of the Year was Gary Ellington and the Men's Coach of the Year was Michael Rosolino.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches following the conclusion of the 2026 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Performances from both the NCAA Championships and the regular season were considered. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
