Volleyball Sweeps Barton

Lady Flames Split on Day One of Lee Invite





The Lee volleyball team bounced back after a loss earlier in the day to top Barton College, 3-0 in the nightcap of the day one of the Lee Invitational from Walker Arena.

The Lady Flames stormed out of the gate to a 25-15 victory first set victory and never looked back. Silvia Sartori led the way with 12 kills and 14 digs. Erin Hill followed with eight kills on a .318 hitting percentage.

The next two sets would prove to be evenly contest with 11 ties and eight lead changes combined. The Lady Flames won set two 25-22 before outlasting the Bulldogs 27-25 in the final set. Blaire Beamer hammered home one of her seven slams to seal the first victory of the season.

Sadie Johnson set the offense up with 19 assists while Hillary Hoffpauir added 15 helpers. Freshman Makalya Beebe saw her first action of the year and recorded a match-high 22 digs.

The Bulldogs were paced by Stephanie Pingyin's double-double. Pingyin had 16 kills and 11 digs. Marian Kendzia followed with seven kills and Angelica Acevedo registered 29 assists.

The Lady Flames (1-1) will play two more matches tomorrow to wrap up the Lee Invitational. Lee entertains Emmanuel College at 12 p.m. before closing out with Bryan College at 6 p.m.

Barton (4-5) will challenge Union at 9 a.m. tomorrow and then face Campbellsville at 12 in the DeVos Recreation Center right next to Walker Arena. The Bulldogs opened up the invite with a victory over Emmanuel College.

The Lee volleyball team opened up the season on Friday morning, falling to Campbellsville University, 3-0 in the opening match for each team of the Lee Invitational from Walker Arena.

The Tigers edged the Lady Flames in the opening set by a 25-23 margin. From there Campbellsville scored a 25-19 second set victory and closed things out with a 25-18 win in the third set.

The Lady Flames were led by freshman Emily Bento who recorded nine attacks on a .462 attack percentage. Erin Hill and Silvia Sartori added five slams apiece and Brooke Wilsman followed with four.

Hillary Hoffpauir and Sadie Johnson shared time at the setter position. Hoffpauir had 11 assists while Johnson earned nine helpers. Senior libero, Stephanie Hernandez recorded a match-high 13 digs.

Campbellsville was led by Annija Abolina with 14 kills and a sizzling .520 attack percentage. Jana Kortas followed with eight slams and Maria Coelho added seven. Inoa Fields set the offensive in motion for the Kentucky with 29 assists.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair with eight ties and three lead changes. The Tigers would take the momentum from the first set victory however and never relinquish the lead in set two. There was three ties and one lead change in the third and final set.
