Flames Roll Past Oakland City

Lee Blanks Might Oaks, 7-0

Quade Marinell scored 38 seconds into the match and from that point on it was all Lee as the Flames rolled past Oakland City, 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Lee Soccer Field.

Marinell scored his fourth goal of the season after he rocketed home the rebound off Drew Jackson's missed shot. Jackson was credited with the assist.

From there the Flames would continue to attack starting keeper Conor McGoldrick but would carry just a 1-0 lead into the intermission. McGoldrick played the first 45 minutes as was credited with five saves. Lee outshot the Might Oaks 18-2 in the opening period.

The Flames came out firing away in the second half, scoring six times off Oakland City backup keeper Francois Fonlladosa. For the match, Lee outshot the Indiana club by a staggering 32-7 margin. The Flames placed 14 shots on goal while the Mighty Oaks had four on frame.

Sophomore Jake Molony got things going in the second half, scoring the first of his two goals in the 48th minute. Molony slipped a shot past the keeper on a well timed pass from Jose Orellana.

"Jose gave me a beautiful ball on that first goal and I was able to finish," said Molony. "I think getting the championship rings really motivated us to come out and play well in the second half."

The 2014 men's soccer team received its National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship rings in a special ceremony at halftime. The 2014 title was the first in the history of the Lee men's soccer program.

David Perez made it 3-0 Flames with a rocket from the top of the box at the 55:07 mark. A minute late it was Molony again, this time connecting on a cross from Jon Finlay. Perez would fire back with his second goal in the 58th minute to give Lee a 5-0 advantage and three goals in the three minutes.

Perez, the junior from Dalton, Ga. leads the team with six goals on the season. Molony notched his first two goals of the season.

"If everyday was like this, it would be great, it was a really special day with the ring ceremony and the way we came out and played in the match," said head coach Paul Furey. "Oakland City has played everyone so far really close so this one a very nice win for us. We came out very explosive and got the shutout and today was just one of those really fun days."

Tom Halsall worked 76 minutes in frame for the Flames and registered two saves. Sophomore Jake Huffaker came on to finish the final 14 minutes of the match and preserved the shutout with two saves of his own.

Travis Kiger made it 6-0 at the 69:15 mark on an ssists from Arturo Rocho and Matt Brady ended the offensive explosion with his third goal of the season in the 89th minute. Austin Waddell set the score up with a cross into the box.

The Flames will wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule next week. On Tuesday Lee heads to North Georgia before returning home on Thursday to host Bryan College.
