Lady Flames Fall to Valdosta State

Lady Blazers Remain Unbeaten with 3-0 Win Over Lee

The Lee volleyball team finished up a difficult stretch of the conference schedule with a Saturday matinee against unbeaten Valdosta State University at Walker Arena.

The Lady Blazers (9-0, 5-0) remained perfect topping the Lady Flames (5-5, 1-4) in straight sets, 25-23, 26-24 and 25-21.

The Lady Flames recorded double-digit kills in each set and held a 23-21 advantage in set two but couldn't dial up the right combination to defeat Valdosta State.

"This has been a really tough stretch of opponents and I thought we had some chances to win a set or two in this one but once again we seem to be making mistakes at crucial times," said head coach Andrea Hudson.

Silvia Sartori recorded another double-double for Lee as she led the club with 14 kills to go along with 14 digs. Brooke Wilsman added 11 slams and Erin Hill stepped up with nine kills, as she works her way back from a labrum injury.

"Erin's injury is something that could have required surgery but we've been trying to avoid that, so we've been resting her. We thought she may have been able to play last night but she came on today and really provided a spark for our team," noted Hudson.

Hillary Hoffpauir set up the Lady Flames with 18 assists in the match. Sadie Johnson and Haley Foote chipped in 10 assists each. Senior libero Stephanie Hernandez registered a match high 23 digs.

The Lady Blazers were paced by Susanna Peonia with nine kills and also made her presence felt on the defensive side with seven blocks.  Lea Jaklen added seven slams while Jessica Codato tallied 23 assists. Natalia Campos led the backline with 14 digs.

The evenly contested sets featured 13 ties but just three lead changes.

The Lady Flames will look to get back in the win column on Friday as they travel to West Alabama for a 7 p.m. battle. Lee will also visit West Georgia on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Union University on Oct. 6.
