The Lee men's soccer team will look to start the season off on a three-game winning streak as they welcome first-year program Dalton State College to the Lee soccer field on Tuesday evening.
Â
The Flames captured the Olive Garden Invitational crown last weekend in front of a packed home crowd to kick off the official NCAA D2 era at Lee. Senior goalkeeper, Tom Halsall recorded two clean sheets and 11 saves while junior striker David Perez added two goals and two assists in the two victories. Halsall was named the tournament's MVP while Perez claimed Offensive MVP honors.
Â
Halsall and Perez were recognized by the Gulf South Conference for their outstanding play. Perez was named Men's Soccer Player of the Week and Halsall received the Defender of the Week nod. They are the first two Lee athletes to claim the weekly award.Â
Â
"I just wanted to come back and work hard and reward coach for putting so much faith in me," Halsall said after Saturday's match. Last year, as a junior, Halsall posted a 0.80 Goals Against Average before having his season cut short with a leg injury.
Â
Dalton State enters with a mark of 3-1-1 to kick off their inaugural campaign. The Roadrunners are under the direction of Karmer Daser and have scored victories over Brescia, Florida College and Milligan to start the year. Tomide Abdale leads the way for the Georgia club with five goals and three assists. Ibrahima Sissoko follows with four goals and five assists.
Â
After tonight's match the Flames will head down to Boca Raton, Fla. for the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Men's Soccer Classic. Lee will test Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday before tangling with the defending NCAA Division II National Champions, Lynn University on Saturday.
