Shorter Smothers Lady Flames, 3-0

Hawks, Lady Flames Split Season Series

Rome, Ga. – Looking to solidify its spot in the GSC Tournament the Lee volleyball team lost to Shorter University in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) on Thursday evening.

The Hawks exacted some revenge on the Lady Flames after Lee knocked them off 3-1 earlier in the season.

Senior Catherine Conley led the way with 10 kills for the Lady Flames. The Acworth, Ga. native also made her presence felt on defense with four blocks. Brooke Wilsman followed with nine slams and 13 digs. Sadie Johnson tallied 18 assists and Makayla Beebe led the back line defense with 19 digs.

Tiffani  Estep paced the Hawks effort with 11 kills and proved to be a brick wall at the net with seven blocks. Elizabeth Dowd eight slams and 14 digs. Cheyenne Frady pitched in 18 assists.

The loss drops Lee to 14-14 overall and 9-10 in league play. Shorter improves to 21-6 and 16-3 in league action. The Hawks are now in first place in the GSC with one match remaining.

The Lady Flames currently sit in seventh place in the GSC but a win tomorrow evening against a struggling Mississippi College club at home should be enough for Lee to jump into the sixth and final spot. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. against the Choctaws.
