Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Lee University men's tennis team dropped its first Gulf South Conference (GSC) match of the season with an 8-1 loss at No. 4 University of West Florida. The Flames will now travel to Livingston, Ala., to face the University of West Alabama at 12 p.m. EST Sunday.
West Florida (6-0, 4-0 GSC) swept the doubles matches and claimed five singles matches for the comfortable win. The Flames (4-2, 1-1 GSC) earned a win at the No. 5 singles spot to avoid the shutout.
Karl Hulten dropped his first set to Pedro Roese, 6-2, before fighting back to win the second set, 6-4, and forced a tie-breaker set. Hulten edged Roese 11-9 in the tie-breaker to win the match and record the team point.
Eirik Groner and Jake Okines battled the No. 5 doubles team of Alex Peyrot and Kenny Brasil before falling 8-4. Hulten and Charles Jabaley fell by the same score to Sebastian Sanchez and Pablo Borrero. Boyd Blackburn and Rhys Milne were defeated 8-2 by Juan Pablo Boada and Roese.
In other singles action, Groner faced No. 11 Peyrot in the No. 1 slot. Peyrot came out with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Okines lost 6-4, 6-1 to Boada and Milne was beaten by Borrero 6-0, 6-2.
Blackburn and Jabaley were also beaten in straight sets. Douglas Boe defeated Blackburn 6-1, 6-3, while Pablo Tellez beat Jabaley 6-2, 6-3.
