ROME, Ga. – The Lee University men's basketball season came to an end with a 79-73 defeat at Shorter University in the Winthrop-King Centre. The Flames end the season with an overall record of 10-18 and 7-15 in the Gulf South Conference (GSC).
Lee entered the contest one game behind Shorter (14-14, 9-13 GSC) and West Alabama for the final spot in the GSC Tournament. With a win and a loss by UWA at West Georgia, the Flames would have earned the tie-breaker and the tournament berth.
Keevin Tyus and Levi Woods each scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Flames. Tyus finished the double-double with 11 rebounds. Woods made 4-of-7 shots from behind the arc and added five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Rico Overall made two 3-pointers on his way to 16 points. Chase Cullen finished with 10 rebounds and six points. Rantavious Gilbert registered six points, seven rebounds and one blocked shot to finish with 93 blocks for the season.
The Flames were 27-for-68 (.397) from the floor and made 7-of-17 shots from distance. The Hawks made 24-of-62 (.387) attempts overall and converted 5-of-20 (.250) 3-pointers.
Lee made 14 trips to the free throw line and made 12 (.857), while Shorter made 26-of-29 (.897) from the charity stripe.
Shorter was led by Alijah Bennett and Phil Taylor with 18 points each. Taylor also had a game-high seven assists. Chris Daniels recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards.
