The Lee University men's tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak against Gulf South Conference (GSC) opponents with a 5-4 defeat The University of Alabama in Huntsville at the DeVos Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.

The Flames (9-6, 3-4 GSC) won two of the three matches in doubles competition and added wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 singles to complete the team win.

"We weren't at our best today, but the pleasing thing for us is that we were able to get the job done," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. 

UAH (2-8, 1-4 GSC) drew first blood with an 8-5 win by Harrison Stone and Rodrigo Palomino against Karl Hulten and Charles Jabaley at No. 3 doubles. Eirik Groner and Jake Okines teamed up to beat Murilo Basso and Arthur Menezes, 8-4, at the No. 1 slot. Rhys Milne and Boyd Blackburn were 8-6 winners over Elliot Hopson and Noah Pring.

Groner pushed Lee's lead to 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 downing of Basso. Milne pulled the Flames to within one singles win of team victory with a 6-2, 6-1 showing against Brodie Holmes.

Hopson overcame Okines' opening set win (6-4) to post scores of 6-1 and 6-3 to win at No. 2 singles.

Hulten beat Pring 6-3 in the opening set and held on for a 7-5 margin in the second set to clinch the team win for the Flames.

Stone and Menezes picked up wins for UAH at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots to supply the final margin.

The Flames return to action on Sunday with another GSC match against Mississippi College at 2 p.m. EDT.
