Shorter Pitches Past Lady Flames

Hawks Out Duel Lee In The Circle

ROME, Ga. – Despite quality starts from Leigh Beatenbough and Angie Hughes the Lee softball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader with Shorter University.

While the Lady Flames (12-17, 2-15) got solid pitching the Hawks (17-10, 11-6) were just a little bit better in the circle in claiming 2-0 and 2-1 victories.

The two clubs will wrap up the weekend series tomorrow at 1 p.m.

GAME 2 – LEE 1, SU 2
Shorter starter Hannah Draper (5-4) allowed just one run on six hits while striking out four to lead the Hawks over the Lady Flames in game two.

Kimbrell came on to close the door and earn her fourth save for Shorter. She pitched two innings and allowed just one run while fanning three.

The Lady Flames offense was able to tally just one run on seven hits. Hughes (4-11) limited the Hawks to seven hits, two runs and struck out five. After struggling with command for much the year the senior walked just two batters.

Shorter tallied its only runs of the game in the first inning. Erica Bynum delivered a two-run double scoring Kameron Carter and Tiffany Holland.

After the hiccup in the first, Hughes shutout the Hawks over the next five innings allowing just five hits.

The Lady Flames would get on the board in the top of the fourth as Annabeth Pruett ripped a single up the middle to score Hallie Davis.

Senior catcher Emily Dagnan doubled and singled while Davis also added a double and single. Pruett tallied a pair of singles and Lexie Dean added the other hit with a one-base knock.

Game 1 – LEE 0, SU 2
Payton Lippert (8-6) kept the Lady Flames' offensive at bay throughout the contest as she dazzled in the circle for the Hawks in game one with a complete game shutout.

Lippert allowed just five hits and struck out four while not walking a batter.

Lee starter Leigh Beatenbough (3-6) was tagged with the tough-luck loss. She pitched all six innings and gave up just a pair of runs on seven hits.

Carter got the Shorter on the board early with a RBI single up the middle in the first. The other run would come on a Niki Cook bunt single to score Taylor Ann Oda in the fourth frame.

Dagnan led the Lady Flames with two hits including the game's lone extra base hit on with a double in the sixth inning. Nia Ceasar, Steve Baird and Pruett tallied the other hits.
