YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Exploding for nine runs in the top of the ninth inning, Lee broke open a tight 3-1 battle en route to a 12-1 non-conference victory over Young Harris College on Tuesday evening at the Zell B. Miller Park.
The Flames improved to 16-13 overall as they return to Olympic Field and move back into Gulf South Conference action on Saturday and Sunday against powerful West Alabama.
Lee went on top 1-0 in the sixth inning on a solo homer by Chris Adams. The margin reached 2-0 in the top of the seventh as the Flames played small ball. Geremy Walton reached on a bunt, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ty Broady and later scored on a wild pitch. The Lions rallied back with a single run in the bottom of the seventh when Troy Kizer's homer made it a 2-1 game.
Adams ripped his second homer of the day in the eighth inning to put the Flames up 3-1. He finished the contest with three hits, three RBI and three runs scored.
Ben Holland enjoyed a perfect 3-for-3 performance. He also scored a run. Broady drilled a double and a homer, concluding the contest with three RBI. Trent Hill had a RBI and a run scored, while Luke Toms picked up a RBI with a single. All totaled, the Flames scored 12 runs on 13 hits.
As coach Mark Brew prepared his club for a key series against West Alabama, the Lee skipper used five pitchers. Justin Alleman started and worked the first two innings. He gave up two hits and struck out one. Logan Campbell followed for 2/3 of an inning, allowing two walks and posting a couple of strikeouts.
Lefty Corbin Lamb hurled 2 1/3 innings. He allowed three hits but struck out four and walked one. Gage Carpenter worked the next two innings. He surrendered a home run but posted three strikeouts. Hill went to the mound for the final two innings. He allowed two hits by the Lions, walked one, hit a batter and fanned three.
