The Lee softball team dominated from start to finish in claiming a doubleheader sweep over Brevard College on Wednesday afternoon from a sun-splashed Butler Field.
The Lady Flames outscored the Tornados, 20-1 in the two games, both ending in run-rule victories in the fifth frame.
Lee is now 14-21-1 overall and will look to carry the momentum into a home weekend series with Gulf South Conference rival West Alabama on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. Brevard, members of the South Atlantic Conference, fall to 11-25 on the year.
GAME 1 – LEE 12 BC 1 Emily Dagnan launched her fifth home run of the season and doubled twice while Angie Hughes and Bri Eichbaum dazzled in the circle to help hand Lee a 12-1 victory in the opener over the Tornados.
The Lady Flames struck early for five runs in the first frame and never looked back, scoring in each of the four innings they went to the plate.
Dagnan doubled home Amanda Lynn to get the scoring started. After a passed ball scored the second run, Stevie Baird delivered a run-scoring single to make it 3-0. Nia Ceasar stole home on a double steal before Annabeth Pruett capped the rally with RBI double to left.
With plenty of run support Hughes (5-11) tossed three innings allowing one run on two hits. The senior struck out pair and walked three. Bri Eichbaum logged the final two frames in relief and sat down all six batters she faced in order.
Dagnan delivered a two-run blast just off the top of the wall in left center in the second frame. In the third inning it was Lynn who would drive home Baird with a single to extend the advantage to 8-1.
The Lady Flames secured the run-rule victory with a four-run fourth. Courtney Crawford laced a triple to score two runs to finish off the scoring. The junior center fielder was a perfect 3 for 3 at the dish.
Ricki Kuhn (3-10) was tagged with the loss for the North Carolina club. She pitched all four innings and surrendered 12 runs (10 earned) on 12 hits while walking five.
GAME 2 – LEE 8 BC 0 The nightcap was more of the same as the Lady Flames blanked Brevard, 8-0 thanks to a complete game shutout from Leigh Beatenbough.
Beatenbough (3-9) breezed through her five innings of work, allowing just three hits while striking out five. She did not walk a batter.
The Tornados countered with Jamie Hrobak (8-15) in the circle. Hrobak allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits. She walked one and struck out three in the contest.
Nia Ceasar was a perfect 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Hallie Davis tripled in the second and doubled in the fourth to finish 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Annabeth Pruett, who has recently seen more time at the plate, doubled twice and drove in three runs. Pruett sealed the run-rule victory with a two-run double in the fifth inning to end the game at 8-0.
The Lady Flames pounded out 10 hits in the contest and are currently second, behind only No. 4 North Alabama, in team batting average at .331.
