Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Lee University men's tennis team began its spring break trip with a 5-0 defeat to No. 9 Valdosta State University Saturday morning at the VSU Tennis Courts. Lee falls to 6-5 overall and 2-4 in the Gulf South Conference (GSC).
Valdosta State (5-2, 1-0 GSC) swept the doubles matches to gain an early 3-0 lead. Leo Blay and Xavier Pineda defeated Eirik Groner and Jake Okines, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles. Rhys Milne and Boyd Blackburn were held off by Gereon Heitmann and Andrew Harvin, 8-5. Karl Hulten and Charles Jabaley were blanked by Fernando Rivas and Jordi Mas.
Blackburn was beaten 6-2 and 6-4 by Mas at No. 4 singles and Pineda's 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Hulten in the No. 5 slot sealed the team victory for the Blazers. The rest of the singles competition was left unfinished.
The Flames will now travel to Orlando, Fla., for the rest of its trip. Lee faces University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Monmouth College on Monday and St. Cloud State University on Wednesday.
