ORLANDO, Fla. – The Lee University men's tennis team collected two wins on Monday. The Flames recorded a 9-0 shutout of University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in the morning and handed Monmouth College an 8-1 defeat in the evening.

Lee will have Tuesday off before getting back on the courts Wednesday. The Flames will challenge St. Cloud State University in Winter Haven, Fla., at noon. 

 
Flames 8, Monmouth College 1
The Flames (8-5) took little time to grab a 3-0 lead over Monmouth (1-7) with a sweep of the doubles competition. Rhys Milne and Boyd Blackburn defeated Saxon Day and Paulo Pliego, 8-2. Eirik Groner and Jake Okines were 8-1 winners over Landon Walker and Marco Franco. Karl Hulten and Charles Jabaley won 8-2 over Dylan Wong and Ronnie Griffin.

Blackburn won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles against Day. Groner secured the team win with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Walker. Okines was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Dylan Wong. Jabaley and Hulten gave Lee an 8-0 lead with wins at the No. 5 slot and at No. 4, respectively.

The Fighting Scots avoided the shutout with a win at No. 6 singles. Griffin won the first set 6-2, before holding off Luke Russo, 7-5, in the second set tie-breaker.

 
Flames 9, USciences 0
The Flames hit very few bumps on the way to the morning sweep of the Devils (2-5). Milne and Blackburn were 8-1 victors over Borna Novak and Duncan Henderson. Hulten and Jabaley won 8-2 against Tajay McLeod and Chandat Phan. Groner and Okines used a 7-4 mark in a tie-breaker to defeat Jake Sosonkin and Nathan Nguyen, 9-8.

Blackburn won 6-2, 6-0 over Nguyen and Groner beat Sosonkin 6-1, 6-2 to claim the team win. Hulten won his first set against McLeod 6-2, but needed a 7-0 tie-breaker to win the second set 7-6.

Milne blanked Novak in their tie-breaker in the opening set and rode the momentum for a 6-2 margin in the second set. Jabaley defeated Phan 6-4, 6-0 and Westley Lemke was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Evan Halperin at No. 6 singles.
