Volleyball Defeats Florida Tech, Bridgeport

PALM BEACH, Fla. - It did not take the Lee volleyball team long to recover from a pair of opening-round defeats in the Bash at the Beach that is being hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Lady Flames took care of Florida Tech, 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-15) in just over an hour on Saturday morning, and then wrapped up the two-day event with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20) victory over the University of Bridgeport (Conn.).

Sartori Paces Win Over Florida Tech

Senior Silvia Sartori walked away with a double-double, 13 kills and 10 digs in helping the Lady Flames improve to 1-2 in the tournament. Her .379 attack percentage was also a marked improvement over Friday's opening-round matches. Brooke Wilsman also stepped up with eight kills and 11 digs. She also had a .318 attack mark. Senior Catherine Conley chipped in with seven kills and three blocks. Sadie Johnson (17) and Kristi Farley (14) were tops in the assist department, while Makayla Beebe contributed to the winning effort with 17 digs.

Becca Bowers picked up 17 digs for Florida Tech and Kiersten Rosa dished off 14 assists. The Lady Flames dominated net play and held the Florida club's kill leader Abigael Brenke to only six kills.

Wilsman Directs Victory Over Bridgeport

While Sartori was posting her second straight double-double (11 kills, 22 digs), Wilsman, a junior outside hitter, had one of the best days of her career in the 3-1 win over the Knights. Wilsman not only posted a kill to help the Lady Flames complete a nip-and-tuck second-set win, she finished the afternoon contest with 20 kills and 15 digs, joining Sartori in the double-double department.

Carly Callahan joined the kill party with 11 slams. Johnson and Farley helped create the kills, finishing with 26 and 18 assists respectively. Beebe went to the floor for 17 digs, while Conley and Crystal Dedes had four blocks apiece.

The Lady Flames will take a 2-2 record into their first home match of the season on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Tuskegee University (Ala.). They will enter conference play next Friday and Saturday, hosting Alabama Huntsville and North Alabama. Friday's match is slated for a 7 p.m. start and Saturday's date with North Alabama is slated for 2 p.m.
