NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lee men's soccer team bounced back from a disappointing home loss to Tusculum on Saturday with a convincing 3-1 victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday evening.
Senior captain David Perez got the Flames on the board first in the 36th minute firing a strike past the keeper on an assist from Jose Orellana. Perez has now scored in each of the last three contests.
"That was a much needed win for us," said head coach Paul Furey. "We kinda got a rhythm back and played more like Lee Soccer. DP (David Perez) had a terrific strike to get us the lead set up by Arturo (Rocha) to Jose.
Less than a minute later it was freshman Tanner Carter giving Lee a two goal advantage as he scored his first collegiate goal at the 36:45 mark off a rebound from a Perez shot.
"Our freshman played well including Tanner who scored his first goal knocking in a rebound from DP's shot," noted Furey.Â
The Flames wasted little time extending the margin after the intermission as Quade Marinell fired home a shot deflecting off a Trojan defender to score his third goal of the season to put the match away. Â Drew Jackson set the play up and was credited with the assist.
Trevecca spoiled the Lee shutout bid in the final minute as Baylor McKay scored off a corner kick from Danny MartinezÂ
Daniel Hrenko got the nod in the net for the Flames and tallied his first victory of his career. Hrenko recorded one save and allowed just the one goal. Â Jonas Loock was tagged with the loss in goal for the home team while registering six saves in the contest.
"Congrats to Dan in goal earning his first collegiate win his first start," said Furey.Â
The Flames stayed on the attack the entire evening outshooting the Trojans 23-7. Lee on target with 10 shots while Trevecca managed just three shots on frame.
"We really created a good number of chances but needed to be a bit more proficient in our finishing," concluded Furey.
The victory moves Lee closer to the .500 mark at 2-3 while the Trojans fall to 1-3-1. The Flames will look to stay on track on Friday evening as they return to the Lee Soccer Field to host an old rival Auburn Montgomery at 7 p.m.
