MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore forward Lauren Peters scored two goals in the second half to help the Lee women's soccer team turn away a stubborn Christian Brothers University team 2-0 on Friday evening at Signaigo Field.
The victory improved Lee's record to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0 in Gulf South Conference play. The Bucs dropped to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Peters' first goal came 13 minutes deep into the second half. The score was assisted by McKenzie Bricker. Peters came back to record her fourth goal of the season in the 86
th minute and insure the 6
th-ranked Lady Flames' win. The goal was unassisted.
"We certainly were nowhere near our best this evening," pointed out coach Chris Hennessey. "Give full credit to Christian Brothers. They came out and wanted it more than us in the first half.
"The second half was a much better response after our sluggish first half," the coach added. "CBU is always a tough place to play."
The Lee defense limited the Bucs to only three shots during the entire match and only one on goal. Haley Gribler picked up the save. The Lady Flames took 14 shots and placed eight on goal. Emily Wragg picked up six saves in the loss.
It was the fifth shutout of the season for the Lee defense. The group has allowed only three goals all season.
The Lady Flames will move on to Jackson, Tenn. and face Union University on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. "We have a very tough game at Union, so we need to recover and begin preparing for another GSC game," Hennessey concluded.
