West Alabama Downs Flames, 71-60




LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Lee University men's basketball team was outscored by 14 points in the second half of a 71-60 loss in a Gulf South Conference contest at the University of West Alabama. The Flames (6-5, 2-3 GSC) held a 33-30 halftime lead.

West Alabama (7-4, 2-3 GSC) scored the first nine points of the second half to take a six-point lead. Keevin Tyus ended the UWA run with a three-pointer to pull the Flames to within three with 16 minutes remaining. That was the closest Lee would get the rest of the way.

Tyus led the Flames with 19 points, including Lee's first seven points of the second half. He added five rebounds and two steals. Cody Farley was the only other Flame to reach double-digit scoring with 13, while Cody Jones added nine markers, three boards and three assists.

The Flames made 39.3-percent (22-for-56) of their shots and 7-of-24 (.292) three-point attempts. The hosts were slightly more accurate at 44-percent (22-for-50), including 6-for-16 (.375) from distance.

UWA held an advantage at the free throw line, converting 21-of-30 (.700) trips. The Flames went to the line 14 times and made nine (.643).

UWA scored 16 points off 14 Lee turnovers, while the Flames cashed in West Alabama's 12 floor mistakes for eight points.

Gavin Robinson was the leader for West Alabama with 19 points and eight rebounds. Jahmal Lane added 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Johnny Stallworth rounded out UWA's double-digit scoring with 12 points.

The Flames return home on Saturday for the first of two consecutive home dates. Lee hosts Valdosta State at 4 p.m. on Saturday, followed by West Florida at 6 p.m. Monday evening.

All Bradley County residents will be admitted free to the remaining home games this season.
