Livingston, Ala. – A strong finish propelled the Lee women's basketball team to a 67-56 road victory over West Alabama on Monday evening.
Sharpshooting junior Erin Walsh canned four triples and went 7 of 15 from the floor to account for 18 points to lead the Lady Flames. Sophomore Anna Woodford registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Flames jumped out to a 10-point lead at the halftime break but saw the Tigers cut the margin to six in the third quarter after limiting Lee to just nine points in the period.
Coach Marty Rowe's young squad bounced back to close the game outscoring the Tigers 18-13.
The Lady Flames got a nice lift off the bench from Lindsey Roddy and Haley Cornellison as both players registered 11 points.
After struggling shooting the ball in a road loss to West Georgia on Saturday Lee fired away from 3-point distance hitting 10 of 21 from long distance in the contest. The Lady Flames finished at 43.6 percent shooting overall.
Conversely, West Alabama made just one 3-point field goal and hit just 33 percent from the floor as the Lee defense forced 14 turnovers, blocked seven shots and swiped seven steals.
Veteran Ariel Wilson led the Tigers with a game-high 21 points. Sydney King followed with eight points and six rebounds.
"I'm just really proud of our effort and resiliency tonight," said Rowe. "We really battled the entire contest and finished strong to earn the victory. Now we need to have the same focus and execution as we get back home on Saturday."
The victory moves the Lady Flames to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee moves into a four-way tie atop the standings with West Florida, West Georgia and Valdosta State. West Alabama slips to 4-8 and 1-4.
Lee will get back home to duel with the Blazers on Saturday at 2 p.m. Valdosta State topped Alabama Huntsville 76-66 Monday night.
