The Lee volleyball team made quick work of visiting Emmanuel College winning in straight sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-14) by a combined 27 points on Tuesday evening from Walker Arena.
As a team the Lady Flames showcased their accuracy in the attack as they finished the contest with a season-high .324 team hitting percentage to zip past the Lady Lions. Leading the charge was Alex Reuter who blasted 10 slams without any errors to finish with a .556 percentage.
Silvia Sartori was her usual consistent self as the junior slammed home 13 more kills and also did not commit an error to tally a clean .433 hitting mark. Sartori is second in the Gulf South Conference averaging 3.86 kills per set.
The Lady Flames used a 5-0 run in the first set with Reuter serving to break open a 12-12 tie en route to the 25-19 win. Thanks to the serving of freshman Allie Koepfer the Lady Flames jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in set two and then ended the game on a 10-1 run thanks in large part to the serving and powerful hitting of Sartori.
Coach Andrea Hudson's club quickly erased any hope of an Emmanuel comeback as they controlled the third and final set from start to finish winning 25-14.
Kristi Farley set things up for the Lady Flames with 20 assists while adding six digs and two timely kills. MaKayla Beebe roamed the back line for 19 digs and dished out five assists.
Lee did plenty of damage off its serve as it recorded a season-high 10 aces. Reuter led the way with four while Sartori and Sadie Johnson each tallied two.
Hudson was able to go to her bench on Tuesday and found solid production from sophomore Claire McMasters who came on in the third set to record three kills and a pair of digs.
"It's always nice to see players come off the bench and be ready to play," noted Hudson. "I asked Claire in the first set if she was ready and she said she was and did a nice job out there for us."
The Lee defense limited the Lady Lions to just a .130 hitting percentage. Julie de Blanck posted seven kills while Guro Key Froberg followed with six. Stephanie Hardy pitched in 16 assists and Aysha Avery registered 16 digs.
The win moves the Lady Flames to 12-5 overall as they have now won six of their last seven. Emmanuel drops its third straight match to fall to 10-8 on the season.
The non-conference stretch in the schedule will get a little tougher this weekend as the Lady Flames will travel to Hoover, Ala., to take on Sunshine State teams in the South Region Crossover Tournament. Lee jumps back into Gulf South Conference play on Friday, Oct. 20 as they visit Montevallo.
Lee will square off with Lynn University Friday at 7 p.m. before battling fourth-ranked and undefeated Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. The Lady Flames will finish off the weekend Saturday night against Eckerd College at 7 p.m.
"It's always fun to play Palm Beach Atlantic. Of course they are a very talented team but one of my closest friends is their coach. We both got into coaching around the same time and have enjoyed playing each other over the years. It will definitely be a tough weekend but we will be ready for the challenge," concluded Hudson.
