Badgers Score Late To Top Flames, 2-1

Samaan Williams Scores In Road Loss at Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. – The Lee men's soccer team conceded a late goal near the end of regulation to fall to Spring Hill College, 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Alexander Lipinski received a pass from Callum Porter at the top of the box and spun and finished the game winner past Lee's Tristen Putnam in the 83rd minute.

After a scoreless first half the Badgers struck first with goal by Ibrahima Ndaw in the 50th minute.

The lead would be short lived however as the Flames came right back to tie things up at one in the 55th minute. Samaan Williams beat the keeper one on one for his second goal of the season. Drew Jackson was credited with the assist.

"I thought the guys played really hard today. This was not an easy trip or place to play, but we competed for the entire 90 minutes and I'm proud of our collective spirit in that sense," said head coach Derek Pottegier. "Nothing they did surprised us and so I felt like we were really prepared heading into the match."

Putnam recorded six saves for the Flames and allowed multiple goals for just the third time this season.

Spring Hill's Geraldo Bina had one save and allowed just the one goal to earn the victory in net.

The Badgers out shot Lee 12-7 and placed eight shots on frame while the Flames settled for just two on target.

"We just need to capture the right moments in front of both goals to eliminate defensive mistakes and capitalize on our opportunities. We haven't lost faith in the end of the story for us, and so we will be ready for Sunday," concluded Potteiger.

Lee has its two-match win streak snapped and falls to 4-4-2 on the year and an even 3-3 in the GSC. The Badgers improve to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Coach Potteiger's squad will get back on the pitch on Sunday afternoon as they take on West Florida.
