No. 20 West Florida Takes Down Volleyball

Lady Flames Wrap Up Regular Season At Valdosta Saturday



PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 20 West Florida Argonauts made it 15 straight Gulf South Conference wins as they took down the Lee volleyball team, 3-0 on Friday evening.

The Argonauts jumped out to a 12-4 lead and never looked back on their way to a 25-17 first set victory. The Lady Flames battled back in set two and tied things up at 18 before West Florida ended the game with a 7-3 run. West Florida earned the clean sweep with a 25-22 win in the final set. The Argonauts were up 24-19 before Lee rattled off three straight points to briefly avoid match point. Rachel Neblett ended the night with her 14th kill.

The Lady Flames were led by junior Silvia Sartori with 11 kills while freshman Bailey Kress added 10 slams and hit .318. Sadie Johnson and Kristi Farley teamed up for 35 assists in the contest. MaKayla Beebe bounced around the back line for 14 digs.

Neblett fired home 14 slams in just 21 attacks (.476) to lead the Argos. Neblett proved to be a threat in the service game also landed three aces. Veteran setter Monique St. Cyr finished with 34 assists and 10 digs.

The Lady Flames fall to 18-9 overall and are now 9-6 in league play. The win moves West Florida to 25-6 and a perfect 15-0 in the GSC.

Lee locked up a spot in the GSC Tournament next week with last Saturday's win but could move up to the fifth seed with a victory over Valdosta State and an Alabama Huntsville loss.  First serve with the Blazers to wrap up the regular season is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The GSC Tournament will be hosted by No. 1 seed West Florida and is set to begin next Friday with 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5 matchup. The Argonauts and North Alabama have already wrapped up first round byes.
