The Lee University women's lacrosse team finished a busy week with a 14-3 Gulf South Conference loss to the University of Montevallo Saturday afternoon at the South Quad Field. The Lady Flames fall to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Montevallo improved to 7-6, including a 2-3 mark in the GSC.
Jessica Culver scored off an assist by Janey Johnson to open the scoring a little over a minute into the game. Brianne Schapira tied the score a couple minutes later with a free position shot.
The Falcons took control with six consecutive goals to push their lead to 7-1. A free position goal by Schapira supplied the 7-2 halftime score.
Montevallo posted six straight goals in the second half to hold a 13-2 lead with 16:30 remaining. Hanah Rotello received an assist from Meaghan Doyle to cut the deficit to 13-3 with just under 10 minutes left. Jami Hudak scored her sixth goal of the game to wrap up the scoring.
Culver finished the game with three goals and an assist. Alyssa Kaminski added two goals. Jaelyn Carpenter was the winning goalkeeper. She allowed two goals and tallied one save in 30 minutes.
Abby Sanders recorded 11 saves in 60 minutes in goal and was charged with the loss.
The Lady Flames have a modified home-and-home coming up against The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Lee travels to Huntsville on Mar. 30 for a 7 p.m. battle and return to host the Chargers on Apr. 4 at 4 p.m.
