Wolves Hit Past Softball in Series Finale

Lady Flames Head To North Alabama Next

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The West Georgia Wolves exploded for six-runs in the first inning and tallied 16 hits and 13 runs total in handing the Lee softball team a 13-5 lost in the rubber match of the Gulf South Conference series on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Flames jumped on the board first as Abby McKinney singled home Stevie Baird to take an early 1-0 lead. From there however, it was all Wolves as they responded for six runs on five hits in the home half of the first.

After a stellar start in Saturday's game one victory Leigh Beatenbough suffered the loss (7-4) after completing just one inning of work. She allowed six runs on five hits. Madyson Stallcup pitched the next two frames and surrendered five runs. Abby McKinney was the last Lee pitcher to venture into the circle and allowed two runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work.

Raven Smith finished 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBI to lead the West Georgia attack. Katie Spinks doubled and drove in three runs while Peyton Stallworth tallied three singles and had three RBI.

Bailey Church registered the lone extra base hit for the Lady Flames and she tripled home a run in the third inning. In the fourth inning Lee would pull to within three at 8-5 before West Georgia extended the margin with a three-run fourth and ended the contest with two more in the fifth. Kayla Louie had two singles and McKinney drove in three in the losing effort.

Adriana Durden started and pitched all five innings for the Wolves. Durden punched out five and gave up five runs but only two were earned.

The Lady Flames fall to 14-7 overall and are now 5-4 in the GSC. The Wolves improve to 11-9 and 4-5 in league play.

Lee will stay on the road as they visit the defending National Champions and 23-ranked North Alabama on Saturday and Sunday.
