LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama swept the Flames in a pair of Gulf South Conference contests on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers claimed both games by the same 7-3 margin. The two clubs will complete the three-game series on Sunday afternoon with a 2 p.m. (EDT) start.
 
The win pushed West Alabama to 23-10 overall and 13-7 in the GSC standings. The Flames dropped to 20-14 overall and 9-11.
 
GAME 1 – WEST ALABAMA 7, LEE 3
West Alabama outhit the Flames 10-6 and used three home runs and a triple to take game one of the three-game series. Lee loaded the bases three times in the early innings but was only able to score one run before finally scoring a pair in the top of the ninth.
 
The Tigers jumped on top 1-0 in the bottom of the second on Josh Willingham's first home run of the season. The Flames tied the contest at one in the third when Drew Johnson was hit by a pitch with the sacks jammed, forcing home Chase Andrews.
 
West Alabama plated two scores in the third, two more in the sixth on a two-run homer by Brock Montgomery and added insurance runs in the seventh on a RBI triple by Willingham and a home  run by Tyler Stafford.
 
In the ninth Tyler Payne and Jordan Howard singled and Geremy Walton walked to load the bases. Johnson picked up his second RBI of the afternoon with a one-base hit and Brayden Ware collected an RBI with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Howard. Miguel Pimentel and Jeffery Chapuran also had hits in the loss.
 
Jumpei Akanuma (1-3) was charged with the pitching loss. In six innings he allowed seven hits, five earned runs, struck out five and walked three. John Reese Gilmer hurled the final two innings, surrendering three hits, two earned runs and collected a pair of strikeouts.
 
The Tigers used four pitchers. Freshman Cole Waites (5-0) collected the win. In five innings, he allowed just two hits, and one earned run. He fanned six and issued two free passes.
GAME TWO – WEST ALABAMA 7, LEE 3
The Flames wasted no time in gaining a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Walton doubled and Nate Wierzgac drilled a triple to pick up the RBI. Johnson's sacrifice fly plated Wierzgac. West Alabama bounced back with single runs in the bottom of the first and third innings.
 
The Tigers took control of the contest in the fourth inning with four runs to take a 6-2 lead and drive Lee starter Rob Gustitus from the mound. West Alabama added a single run in the sixth.
 
The Flames cut the final margin to 7-3 in the top of the seventh on a solo homer by Howard. It was his fourth of the season but Seth Holbert (2-1) retired Walton to pick up his first complete game of the season.
 
The Flames had 10 hits in the loss. Howard ripped his fourth home run of the year and also collected a single. Walton posted a double and scored one of Lee's three runs. Johnson was a perfect 2-of-2 with a RBI. He finished the day with four hits. Wierzgac tripled and scored. Tyler Payne, Spencer Mossburg and Miguel Pimentel collected Lee's other hits.
 
Gustitus (3-2) was lifted after 3.2 innings. He allowed eight hits, five earned runs and struck out four. Wes Albert came on for 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit, no earned runs, striking out three and issuing two free passes.
