MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore Stevie Baird slugged two grand slams to lead the Lee softball team to a series sweep over Christian Brothers with a 12-4 victory on Saturday in the finale.
Baird started the scoring off in the second frame as she drilled her first home run of the contest with the bags juiced.
Taylor Moran would follow with a two-run shot to left field to cap off a six-run second inning for the Lee offense. Moran would also add a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
With the Lady Flames comfortably ahead 8-4 in the fifth inning, Baird was at it again as she became the first Lee softball player to hit two grand slams in a single with a blast to right center to make it 12-4 Lee. Baird would also double in the game and finished 3 for 3 with eight RBI, three runs scored and a walk.
Leigh Beatenbough (16-5) started and earned her 16
th victory of the season in the circle for the Lady Flames. She allowed four runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Moran cleaned up the last 1 2/3 innings and did not allow a hit.
Jenna Cotter (3-15) was tagged with the loss. She was roughed up for six runs in just 1 1/3 innings. Julia Schassburger followed and yielded three runs in 2 2/3 innings while Sierra Anderson tossed one inning and gave up three runs on three hits.
Holly Oyenhart delivered the lone extra base hit for the Lady Bucs and she doubled home three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lady Flames improve to 32-13 and are now 18-9 and tied for second in the GSC and have officially punched their ticket to  the conference tournament The loss drops CBU to 6-38 overall and 0-27 in league play.
Lee will wrap up the home portion of the regular season with a crucial three-game series against rival Mississippi College beginning Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lady Choctaws are currently tied with Lee for second place.
