MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lee University men's tennis team fell 5-1 to North Alabama in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon at O'Connor Tennis Center. The Flames finish the season with an 11-6 record.
North Alabama, seeded third and ranked No. 37, won two of the three double matches and three singles matches to improve its record to 14-4 and move on to the GSC Semifinals.
Miguel Garcia and Taylor Ausbon defeated Jake Okines and Boyd Blackburn, 8-5, to put the Lions on the scoreboard first. Daniel Prata and Wes Lemke teamed up to even the team score with an 8-6 win over Gustavo Girao and Ray Donovan. Max Druppel and Benjamin Poire outlasted Rhys Milne and Igor Schattan 9-7.
Blackburn fell 6-4, 6-4 to Ausbon at No. 6 singles. Okines was defeated by Garcia 6-3 and 6-4. Donovan won his opening set over Prata 6-1, then held on to win the second set, the individual match and the team match with a 7-5 second-set score. The final three matches were left unfinished.
