Lady Flames Fire Past Lady Blazers, 66-45

End Three-Game Losing Streak To Valdosta State

The Lee University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak to Valdosta State University with a 66-45 defeat of the Lady Blazers Tuesday evening in Paul Dana Walker Arena. The Lady Flames improved to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State dropped to 8-4, including a 2-2 mark in the league.

"Our energy and urgency was the biggest thing," said Lee head coach Marty Rowe. "That's what we're really trying to do. We just wanted to play harder than them. We played harder than them in the first half and that was a really good sign for us. They have a lot of pride and their pride showed in the second half, because they battled us hard and really went to the glass like they do so well."

Abby Bertram made 5-of-9 3-pointers on her way to scoring a game-high 21 points. The sophomore also led Lee with seven rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Lindsey Roddy was the only other Lady Flame in double digits with 18 points.
Erin Walsh contributed nine points and Shelby Brown had seven points to go with six rebounds.

The Lady Flames made 23-of-55 (.418) shots from the field and were 10-for-22 (.455) from behind the arc. VSU connected on just 15-of-64 (.234) shots overall and were 3-for-22 (.136) from distance.

Kenya Samone' Dixon was the only Lady Blazer to exceed the 10-point mark. Dixon finished with 14 points and added seven rebounds. Madi Mitchell entered the game ranked fifth in the GSC in scoring with 17.2 points per game and needing 10 points to reach 1,000 career points. The Lee defense held her to five markers, her lowest output of the season.

Lee continues its two-game home stand Thursday evening against the University of West Florida. The Argonauts (8-3, 3-1 GSC) have won two straight after beating Shorter University, 60-54, Tuesday evening.
