Lee Shoots Down Eagles, 90-59 on Homecoming

Junior guard Abby Bertram scored 16 points on a perfect 6 of 6 shooting from the field to lead the Lee women's basketball program to a dominating 90-59 Homecoming victory over Faulkner University on Saturday afternoon from Walker Arena.

The Lady Flames broke open a five-point game with a 24-4 second quarter performance to take down the Eagles. Lee gave up just one field goal to Faulkner while going 10 of 21 from the field. The Lady Flames never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 33 points.

Lindsey Roddy added 15 points with four assists. Red-shirt junior Kayla Tillie had 14 points and three steals in her Lady Flame debut. Freshman Haley Schubert 13 markers and four steals.
All totaled a tenacious Lee defense recorded 21 steals in the contest and forced 38 turnovers.

"I thought we did some good things today and got a look at a lot of different players which is always what you want during an exhibition," said veteran head coach Marty Rowe. "I really thought we came out with a different mindset in the second and third quarters and really made things difficult on them with tough defense and well executed offense."

The Lady Flames shot 47.1 percent from the field and canned 11 of 28 3-pointers. Lee scored 40 points in the paint and 39 points off turnovers.

Bertram, a preseason All-GSC selection, poured in her 16 points in just 18 minutes on the court. Coach Rowe will count on production from veteran juniors Bertram, Roddy and Taylor Boggess along with seniors Tori Lentz and Anna Woodford to replace the scoring production of All-GSC guard Erin Walsh and four-year starter Carrie Cheeks.

The Eagles were paced by Ashlyn Adkins who tallied 20 points on 5 of 8 shooting from 3-point distance. Angela Grant added 12 points and nine rebounds while Nicole Shirley pitched in 12.

"Homecoming is always a special day but especially with it being our Centennial. I told the players they should feel honored to be able to play during this special celebration. We had some many former players, coaches and staff back on campus to support our girls and who still support and care about our program. We are happy to represent them today and I'm glad we were able to give them something to cheer about."

The Lady Flames will open up the regular season down in Florida on Friday as they take on Florida Southern College on 1 p.m. from Saint Leo University. On Saturday Lee will take on the host Lions at 3 p.m.
