HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 11 Lee Softball team split a doubleheader on Friday at the Charger Chillout hosted by Alabama Huntsville.
The University of Indianapolis stifled the Lady Flames bats in a 5-2 game one victory but Lee fired back in the nightcap defeating Truman State, 10-2 in six innings.
The Lady Flames will get a week off before heading down to Montgomery, Ala. next Saturday and Sunday for the Gulf South Conference Opening Weekend Festival. Lee will open conference play with single games against Christian Brothers, Alabama Huntsville and Montevallo.
LEE 10 TRUMAN STATE 2
Taylor Moran ripped three doubles, scored four runs and drove in two to lead the Lady Flames to a dominating 10-2 victory over the Bulldogs.
Brooklynn Frazier drove in three runs while Kayla Louie reached base in all four of her trips to the plate with two singles, two walks and scored three runs.
Freshman Shonna Penney made the most of the run support as she worked the full six innings allowing two runs and five hits while striking out three. Penney, a native of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., is now 2-1 in the circle on the young season.
The Lady Flames held a slim 3-2 lead heading into the fifth frame before opening things up with a four-run rally. Moran doubled in Louie to start things off. Frazier followed with a run-scoring groundout before Zoe Miller singled in a run and later scored on a Bailey Church double.
All totaled the Lee offense kept the pressure on Truman State the entire game thanks to 12 hits and seven walks.
Dale (0-1) gave up 10 hits and seven runs in 4.2 innings of work in suffering the loss. Simpson tossed the final inning and struggled with command as she gave up five walks and three runs.
Truman State leadoff hitter Reisinger went 1 for 1 and drew three walks to reach base safely in her four plate appearances while Orenstein doubled and singled in the game.
LEE 2 UINDY 5
A four run first inning catapulted the Greyhounds to a 5-2 victory over the Lady Flames in game one on Friday afternoon.
Leigh Beatenbough (2-1) started and labored through the first inning allowing four runs on four hits. The senior would settle in nicely however and toss the next five innings yielding just one run on five hits. She struck out five and walked a pair.
Noone put U of Indy on the board with a single in the first frame. She then swiped second and forced a throwing error allowing the second run to score.
Foster completed the first inning rally with a two-run single to center. Foster went on to deliver a run-scoring triple in the fifth inning and ended the game 3 for 3 with three RBI.
Foster didn't just make her presence felt at the plate however as she also dazzled in the circle allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out four to earn her first win of the season.
The Lady Flames managed just four singles, two coming from Louie. Frazier singled in the seventh and Kayla Gooch ripped a two-out, two-run single but was thrown out at second trying to advance to end the game.
