Softball Wins Big In Game Two at Miss. College

Lady Flames Snap Losing Streak with 11-2 win

CLINTON, Miss. – The Lee softball team split a doubleheader with Mississippi College thanks to big bounce 11-2 win in game two on Friday evening.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game set tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. The Lady Flames are now an even 12-12 on the year and 5-6 in league play while the Choctaws sit at 10-9 and are also 5-6 in the Gulf South Conference.

GAME 1 – LEE 0 MC 1
Caldwell slugged a walk-off home run to end a good old fashion pitcher's duel in the bottom of the seventh to give the Choctaws the 1-0 victory in the opening game.

Mississippi College's Cooper (3-0) outdueled Leigh Beatenbough (5-3) to give the Choctaws the 1-0 victory. Cooper went the distance and shutout the Lady Flames allowing just five hits and striking out four.

Beatenbough matched her pitch for pitch until the decisive blow in the seventh. The senior allowed one run on five hits and did not walk a batter.

Abby McKinney, Taylor Moran, Beatenbough, Brooklynn Frazier and Zoe Miller accounted for Lee's hits.

GAME 2 – Lee 11 MC 2
After falling behind by two runs after the first inning the Lady Flames scored 11 unanswered runs to run-rule the Choctaws 11-2 in the nightcap.

Lee pounded out 11 hits, 10 of which were singles. Zoe Miller doubled and finished with three RBI. Kayla Louie had three hits while Taylor Moran singled and scored three times. Bailey Church also had a multi-hit game with a pair of singles.

Shonna Penny (5-5) benefitted from the offensive explosion as she settled in after giving up a pair of runs in the first to earn the victory. The freshman allowed just the two runs on five hits and struck out three in six innings of work in the circle.

Three Choctaw pitchers combined to give up the 11 runs and 11 hits. Penny Nichols (2-4) started and was tagged with the loss after tossing just 2.1 innings.

The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Lady Flames.
