WALESKA, Ga. – The Lee University lacrosse team saw its come back come up just short in falling to Reinhardt University 17-16 on Wednesday.
The Eagles squad took a 17-15 lead with 3:45 left thanks to a Sarah Inman goal, her third of the game. The Lady Flames answered back 27 seconds later with a goal from Madeline Perrigo to make it a one goal game with 3:18 left in the game.
Reinhardt was able to get draw control, but Rotello would cause a turnover giving Lee another chance, and the two teams would trade turnovers until Lee would commit an offensive foul with 1:25 left to give Reinhardt the ball with no shot clock. Reinhardt would then run out the clock for the victory.
The Lady Flames (5-4) were paced by Freshman attacker Emma Hill with five goals. Brianne Schapira scored three for a hat trick, while Rachel Duda, Perrigo, and Hanah Rotello threw in two apiece. Kaylyn Dillon and Becca Broadwick each had one goal to round out the Lady Flames scoring.
Lee jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with two goals by Hill just over 30 seconds apart from each other just a minute and twenty seconds into the game. Reinhardt (6-1) answered and went back and forth, before tying the game 3-3 on a Morgan McGhee goal with 22:18 left in the first half.
The Lady Flames answered with a four-goal run for themselves to take a 7-3 lead with two goals from Hill. The Eagles scored six of the last eight goals in the first half to send both teams into the half tied at nine.
Reinhardt was led by Morgan McGhee who scored six goals. Inman, and Katie Yarish would each score three goals. Stephanie Grove would be the only other Eagle who would score multiple goals with two.
Christa Hill got the start for Lee at goal and was charged with the loss. Hill played 43:16 in net, and allowed 12 goals, and saved seven shots. Abby Sanders played 16:44 in goal, allowing five and stopping two.
The Lady Flames out shot the Eagles (31-29), had more shots on goal (27-26), and was dead even in ground balls (43).
Lee returns to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday Mar. 17 as they travel to face rival Shorter at 1 p.m. to wrap up their three-game road trip. Coach Wadley's squad returns home to South Quad Field Wednesday Mar. 21 as they will take on the University of Montevallo with first draw coming at 4 p.m.
