The Lee University women's tennis team ended the regular season with a 6-3 loss to Auburn University at Montgomery Friday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames will enter next week's Gulf South Conference Championship with an overall 8-8 record (5-7 GSC).
For the second consecutive match, the Lady Flames were shorthanded due to injury and had to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
AUM (8-9, 7-4 GSC) won No. 2 doubles by an 8-3 score to extend its lead to 2-0. Marta Garcia-Nieto and Carley Sickinger ended AUM's hopes for the sweep with an 8-5 margin at the first position.
Alba De La Torre recorded 6-2 marks in both sets of the No. 5 singles competition and Alejandra Gil secured the team victory with a win at the fourth position.
Sickinger beat Tonja Foessmeier, 6-1 and 6-2, at No. 3 singles and Joanna Grzegrzolka earned a third team point with a three-set defeat of Sofia Navarro.
