Lady Flames Downed By Delta State 57-36

Loss Snaps Lee's Eight-Game Win Streak



CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lee University Women's Basketball team's winning streak came to an end at eight with a 57-36 loss at Delta State University. The Lady Flames fall one game behind Union University for first in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) with a conference mark of 10-2 (16-4 overall).

Delta State (12-7, 7-5 GSC) scored the final 11 points of the opening period to turn a 7-6 Lee advantage into a 17-7 lead for the home team. The Lady Statesmen outscored Lee 21-9 in the second period to go into the halftime break up 38-16. Both teams posted eight points in the third period and the Lady Flames edged DSU 12-11 in the final 10 minutes to complete the scoring.

Abby Bertram and Haley Schubert led the Lee offense with 11 points each. Kayla Tillie added five markers and Anna Woodford made a three-pointer, while Lindsey Roddy, Nicky Widenski and Taylor Boggess tallied two points each.

Delta State was led by Nia Johnson's 16 points. The guard was 4-for-11 from the field and made 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

The Lady Statesmen won the battle of the boards with 45 rebounds to 37 for the Lady Flames. Becca Cheeks gathered 10 caroms to lead Lee. Kirstin Brown recorded 12 rebounds to go with six each from Quantesha Patterson, Frederica Haywood, Zyaire Ewing and Johnson.

Lee made just 13-of-55 (.236) from the field and were 3-for-26 (.115) from behind the arc. DSU was 20-for-54 (.370), including 4-of-6 (.667) from distance. The Lady Flames took 12 trips to the charity stripe and made seven. Delta State connected on 13 of its 21 attempts (.619).

The 36 points by the Lady Flames was the lowest output in program history. The previous low for points scored in a game was 38 at Southern Polytechnic State University on February 17, 2011.

The Lady Flames get a little time to recover with their next game coming at home next Saturday (February 2) against Mississippi College. The GSC matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m.
