Flames Late Rally Falls Short in 2-1 Loss

Two second half goals proved enough for the Spring Hill Badgers as they topped the Lee men's soccer team, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Lee Soccer Field.

The Flames surrendered the first goal of the of the match in the 65th minute when Alexander Lipinski earned a penalty kick and converted his chance after getting taken down in the box.

Just moments later it was Timo Schabetsberger drilling a free kick from 25 yards out at the 68:13 mark. Schabetsberger drilled the ball just under the crossbar for what proved to be the game winner.

The Flames finally found the equalizer when Aidan Moore was taken down in the box to earn a penalty kick of their own. Tristian Lyle was called on to take the kick and hammered home is fourth goal of the season, second penalty chance, in the 82nd minute.

A furious attack in the final eight minutes was turned away by Spring Hill. The Flames out shot the Badgers, 13-5, including a 9-3 advantage in the second half but Spring Hill made the most of their five shots, putting four on mark while Lee placed just three of 13 shots on frame.

Daniel Hrenko posted two saves as he fell to 6-3-2 on the year. Spring Hill keeper Alessandro Erdelyi also had two saves to improve to 4-6.

"I've said many times that our season is a narrative and right now we are at a tough place in the story," said Lee head coach Derek Potteiger. "We obviously always want to perform well in front of the home crowd but sometimes getting on the road and getting to a different surrounding can be good, so we will look to bounce back on these next two road trips.

The Flames are now 6-3-2 on the year and 2-2-1 in league play. The Badgers improve to 4-6 and after dropping four straight conference matches now won four straight to move to 2-4.

Lee will begin its road trip on Friday at Union. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m.
