HOOVER, Ala. – The Lee University volleyball team finished the weekend winless after falling 3-1 in its GSC/SSC Crossover finale to Florida Southern College. The Mocs (5-13) took a 2-0 lead with scores of 25-18 and 25-19 in the first two sets. The Lady Flames (9-13) claimed the third set 33-31, before Florida Southern clinched the team win with a 25-16 margin in the fourth set.
Neither team's attack percentage was all that high. FSC tallied 55 kills with an attack percentage of .176, while the Lady Flames had 47 kills behind an attack percentage of .094.
Quinne Daoust and Bailey Kress led the Lee offense after equaling splitting 18 kills. Mary Katherine Givhan and Abby Stroh were right behind with eight each. Hannah Upton added six kills to the total.
Hanna Matthews was credited with 39 of Lee's 44 assists. Mackenzie Pearson and Micaela McMichen supplied two assists a piece.
McMichen also recorded 27 digs. Pearson, Matthews and Daoust gave Lee four players with double-digit digs. Pearson had 14, Matthews added 11 and Daoust came up with 10.
The Mocs received 14 kills from Rachael Martin, while Tierra Porter, Buse Ene and Olena Bondar tied with 10 kills. Mika Garza dished out 44 assists.
Two Florida Southern players came up with over 20 digs. Hailey Williams led the team with 27 and Beatrice Formilan amassed 24 digs.
The Lady Flames return to GSC competition on Tuesday, October 22, with a trip to the University of Montevallo. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EDT.
