MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lee men's soccer team and the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks battled to a scoreless tie on Monday in Gulf South Conference action.
The evenly contested matchup saw the Flames take 13 shots and put three on frame while the home team registered 11 and placed four on mark.
Senior keeper Daniel Hrenko came away with four saves as he posted his sixth shutout of the season for the Flames. Auburn Montgomery's Alexander Krauss was equally up for the task as he tallied three saves in keeping the clean sheet for the Warhawks.
"I'm really proud of the team's effort tonight. We were fully committed to our game plan and gave ourselves multiple chances to win the game," said Lee head coach Derek Potteiger.
Tristian Lyle led Lee with five shots while Jared McWhorter took four and placed two on frame.
Both clubs moved to 7-4-3 overall. The Flames are now 3-3-2 in the GSC while AUM sits at 3-1-3.
"None of us are satisfied with the result, but when I look at our collective performance and the individual players that emptied themselves on the field for each other then we can walk away proud of each other and accept the result," added Potteiger.
The game was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, but rain forced the change to Monday evening. Lee also had Friday's match at Montevallo get rescheduled, so this was the first game for the Flames since Sunday, Oct. 20, a 4-1 win over Christian Brothers.
The Flames will return to the Lee Soccer Field to wrap up the home-portion of the regular season this weekend. Lee hosts West Alabama on Friday for Senior Night and on Sunday the Flames will tangle with Alabama Huntsville. The Montevallo match has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6.
"Still lots of soccer to be played in the conference and we can't wait for Friday to get here," concluded Potteiger.
