Flames Tame Tigers On Senior Night

Caden Corrao scored his second goal of the season in the 53rd minute to lead the Lee University men's soccer team to a 1-0 defeat of West Alabama at the Lee Soccer Field Friday evening. Jared McWhorter was credited with the assist.

"When you get this late in the season, it's all about your competitive fire, your willingness to compete with one another and being able to sacrifice," said Lee head coach Derek Potteiger. "For our guys, I thought we did that tonight and, in the end, it gave us the result we were looking for."

The Flames (8-4-3, 4-3-2 GSC) recognized its seven senior members prior to the match. Those honored were Tanner Carter, Matt Chartier, Daniel Hrenko, Tristan Lyle, Ronaldo McDonald, Samaan Williams and Samir Williams.

Once action began, Lee fired off six shots and placed three on goal. The Tigers (4-8-2, 2-5-2 GSC) tallied five shots with just one on frame.

Hrenko had one save and recorded his sixth shutout of the season to improve his record to 7-4-3. William Blake had two saves in the loss.

Lee moved into a fifth-place tie in the Gulf South Conference standings with Sunday's opponent, Alabama Huntsville. UAH (6-7-2, 4-3-2 GSC) was a 2-1 winner at Shorter University Friday night.
