UAH Battles Back To Defeat Lady Flames, 3-1



The Lee University volleyball team won the opening set, but then dropped the next three in a 3-1 Gulf South Conference loss to The University of Alabama in Huntsville Friday evening in Paul Dana Walker Arena.

The Lady Flames (6-8, 0-3 GSC) held off UAH (10-5, 3-1 GSC) 25-21 in the first set. The Chargers evened the contest with a 25-14 mark in the second set and took the lead with a 25-14 tally in the third set. Lee fought tough in the fourth set before coming up short in a 25-22 defeat.

Quinne Daoust and Mary Katherine Givhan recorded double-digit kills. Daoust led the Lady Flames with 15 kills, while Givhan recorded 10. Bailey Kress was credited with eight kills.

Hanna Matthews dished out 39 assists and had 11 digs. Micaela McMichen tied for the match-high with 23 digs. Mackenzie Pearson added 17 digs.

UAH was led by Isabelle Barnes' 18 kills and three blocks. Abby Brooks tallied 12 kills to give the Chargers two players with over 10 kills.

The Chargers accumulated 11 blocks over the four sets. The Lady Flames had two. UAH's Caroline Sanford was the leading blocker with 3.5 blocks. Lee's Givhan posted 1.5 blocks with Matthews accounting for the other 0.5 block.

The Lady Flames will look to end a five-match losing skid Saturday afternoon against the University of Montevallo. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT in Walker Arena.
