Lee women's basketball completed its exhibition season on Saturday afternoon with a Homecoming win over Grace College (Indiana), 102-59, inside Walker Arena.
"Grace was exactly the type of team we needed to play this time of year. They are really well coached and a team that plays hard for 40 minutes. We did some things really well today, shared the ball and competed on both ends," commented Lee head coach Marty Rowe.
The Lady Flames got off to a slow start in the opening minutes, but moved out to a 24-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. They picked up the pace in the second period, outscored the visiting Lancers 34-9 and claimed a 43-23 margin at the break
Grace rebounded to outscore Lee 21-17 in the third period, but the quality reserves and the overall Lady Flame strength allowed Lee to dominate the final period and push Rowe's club over the century mark.
Five Lady Flames scored in double figures and all totaled 13 players tallied points. Taylor Boggess hit four of six 3-point attempts and finished with a game-high 17 points. Overall, Lee was 11-of-28 from beyond the arc. Camryn Grant was a force with 16 points and tied Becca Cheeks for rebounding honors (7). Lindsey Roddy totaled 13 points; Cheeks had 12 and Haley Schubert 10.
Lee pleased Coach Rowe with 26 total assists, paced by Abby Bertram who had nine to go along with eight points. Overall, the Lady Flames shot 53 percent from the field and made 19-of-20 free throws. However, they were guilty of 20 floor mistakes. Rowe used all 15 players that dressed in the contest.
Grace got 15 points from Kamryn Hostetler. Micaela Box came off the bench to score 11 and Kyannah Stull finished with 10. Lee out-rebounded the Lancers 48-33 and the visitors were able to shoot just 25 percent against the Lady Flames defense.
"Homecoming is a special time at Lee and we're so grateful for everyone coming out today to support on team. We've got a long way to go but it's going to be an exciting year for our program," concluded Rowe.
The Lady Flames will open the 2019-20 regular season next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Lakeland, Florida, for the GSC/SSC Crossover. On Friday Rowe's crew will face Saint Leo at noon and come back on Saturday with a date with always powerful Florida Southern at 2 p.m.
