MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Jeremiah Bozeman got inside and connect on the game-winning layup as time expired to give Auburn Montgomery a 73-71 buzzer-beating victory over the Lee men's basketball on Saturday evening.
The Flames tied the game at 71 with 18 seconds left as Jayce Willingham came up with a timely steal and found Quay Kennedy who darted into the lane and scored. The sophomore finished with 17 points.
Lee trailed by five with just 37 ticks left but Kennedy drilled a 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining to help make things interesting in the final moments.
Ryan Montgomery led four Lee players in double-figures with 18 points. Kennedy followed with his 17 and had eight rebounds. Parker Suedekum tallied 15 on 5 of 10 shooting from the field and Josh Lowe poured in 10 before fouling out.
Darrion Taylor played the full 40 minutes for the Warhawks and led all-scorers with 22 points and canned four triples. Maharrith Jackson added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Stanley Davis chipped 11 while Bozeman and Joshua Moore tallied 10 each.
Lee struggled shooting the ball in the first half at just 37 percent but went 14 of 25 (56 percent) in the second half to stay in the contest. For the game the two clubs connected on 42 percent from the field.
The Flames fall to 2-3 on the season and are 0-1 in league play. The Warhawks improve to 4-3 and are 1-0 in conference play. Lee had won the previous four meetings with the Alabama club.
The Flames will host rival Shorter on Monday night at 8 p.m. before breaking for Thanksgiving. They return after the holiday on Wednesday, Dec. 5 as they travel to North Georgia for a special noon tip off.
