VALDOSTA, Georgia – A pair of second half goals by host Valdosta State University spelled defeat for the Lee women's soccer team on Thursday evening at the VSU Soccer Complex. The 17
th-ranked Lady Flames will regroup and return to action for their final regular season contest on Saturday afternoon.
The 2-0 loss dropped the Lady Flames to 9-3 GSC, 13-4 overall. Valdosta improved to 8-4, 10-6. Lee will continue on the road against the University of West Georgia at 1 p.m.
"We never really got going tonight. Full credit goes to Valdosta," said Lee head coach Chris Hennessey. "We can't dwell on it too long or make excuses. We just have to be ready for another tough game on Saturday."
Lauren Hicks scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season to spark the Blazers. Her first score came in the 66
th minute and was assisted by Riley Tennant. The same combination teamed up for the second goal in the 88
th minute.
The Lady Flames fired 14 shots and a solid eight were on target. Caroline Embler had eight key saves in goal for the winners. Lee was playing without Taylor Green who was injured in Sunday's contest. The Blazers had only eight shots, placing four on frame. Mollie Wheeler had a pair of saves in taking the loss.
Lee had five corner kicks to just two for VSU. The Blazers were called for six fouls to four against the Lady Flames.
