Chargers Rally To Top Flames, 66-60

The Alabama Huntsville Chargers put together a furious second half comeback to erase an 11-point half time deficit and defeat the Lee men's basketball, 66-60 on Thursday evening.

The Flames held a 35-24 advantage at halftime after shooting 50 percent from the field and a sizzling 7 of 8 from the 3-point line. The hot shooting would fade however as Lee managed to connect on just 1 of 12 from beyond the arc in the second half.

After shooting just 37 percent in the first half, the Chargers hit six triples and were 13 of 27 (48 percent) from the field to outscore the Flames by 17 in the second half.

"I thought defensively we were really good in the first half and played with a lot of freedom offensively and made some shots and were attacking. In the second half they didn't do much different but we made some mental mistakes and they capitalized on that. It really was a tale of two halves and that's been the story of this team this year, we're really good at times and really inconsistent at times and that's frustrating. You can't win close games on the road when you're good one possession and the next one you're not," said Lee head coach Bubba Smith.

Colton Blevins and Ryan Montgomery scored 14 points each to pace the Flames. Parker Suedekum added nine points while Cody Jones and Kentrell Evans each had six.

Seth Swalve hit 3 of 6 from beyond the arc and finished with 22 for the home team. JJ Kaplan turned in a double-double with 17 rebounds to go along with 15 points while Sam Orf and Tanner Finley delivered 10 points each.

The loss drops the Flames to 12-12 on the year and 9-7 in the GSC. Lee is currently eighth in the GSC standings while the win slides the Chargers into the fourth spot at 18-6, 11-5.

Lee will return home to Walker Arena on Saturday to square off with Auburn Montgomery at 7 p.m. The Flames defeated the Warhawks, 74-56 back on Nov. 29.
