Bertram Paces Lady Flames 84-46 Win Over AUM

Abby Bertram came off the bench and played under 19 minutes, scoring 20 points (shooting 8-of-11 from the field, 4-of-5 3s) in leading the Lee women to a 84-46 Gulf South Conference win over University of Auburn at Montgomery on Saturday afternoon in Walker Arena.

The victory improves the Lady Flames to 14-3 in conference standings and 20-5 overall. The 20 wins leaves Lee head coach Marty Rowe with at least 20 victories per season since taking over the Lee program during the 2004-2005 season.

"I like the way we have been playing in games and practice since the loss to Montevallo. We are getting a solid effort from a lot of players," pointed out Rowe.

Saturday's win sets up a key contest with Union University on Thursday evening (6 p.m.) in Walker Arena. The Lady Flames went on the road and handed Union their only loss of the season on Jan. 3rd.

The Lady Flames, led by Bertram, jumped out to a 22-9 lead at the end of the first period and led by an overwhelming 50-14 margin at the half. AUM fought back in the third quarter but could never cut deep into Lee's lead.

The Lady Flames shot the basketball extremely well (53 percent from the field and 56 percent from beyond the arc). They converted 8-of-11 free throws. The Lee defense held the Warhawks in check, 32 percent from the field and just 25 percent on triple attempts.

While Bertram was leading the way, Taylor Boggess hit 3-of-4 3-point attempts and finished with 11 markers. Kayla Tillie finished with 10 points and had a pair of treys. Haley Schubert added nine points and dished off six assists as the Lady Flames had 15 assists compared to only eight turnovers.

Becca Cheeks and Camryn Grant came off the bench to lead the Lady Flames to a 34-30 advantage in the rebounding department. Cheeks pulled down seven and Grant battled for six.

Jordan Brewster was best for the losers with 15 points and Makaylla Bullard was the only other Warhawk in double figures with 11. Victoria Morales contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

After the Union game on Thursday, the Lady Flames will travel to West Georgia next Saturday and host Shorter for the final regular season game on Feb. 28. "We want to finish strong and improve our conference and region standings as much as possible," added Rowe. "I think the first region standings come out on Monday."
