Tigers Take Two From Lady Flames



LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Lee softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of West Alabama on Monday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action.

The Tigers won 4-2 thanks to a two-run homer by Nicole Buccieri in the bottom of the fifth of game one. The Lady Flames rallied to overcome a four-run deficit in game two before West Alabama completed the sweep with a walk off single by Chrissy Tubbs in the bottom of the seventh.

Taylor De Adder had five hits in the series and two doubles. The freshman also tossed all six innings of game one allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out three.

GAME 1 – LEE 2 UWA 4
Nora Keehn (4-3) stifled the Lee bats allowing just two runs, one earned on six hits to lead the Tigers to a 4-2 win in the opener. Keehn struck out three and did not allow a walk.

Alli Craft opened the scoring with a two run home run in the second inning. After the Lady Flames tied things up at 2-2 it was Buccieri who sealed the win with a two-run bomb in the fifth.

Kayla Louie got the Lady Flames on the board as she reached on error and was credited with an RBI in the third. Kiley Longmire tied the game at two with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Kacy Noland, Kendall Johnson and Olivia Dunlap also had two hits in the contest for the Tigers.

De Adder went six innings and was tagged with the loss to move to 3-3 in the circle this season.

GAME 2 – LEE 4 UWA 5
Buccieri struck again in the nightcap on Monday as she led off the seventh with a double and came around to score the winning run on a single from Tubbs.

After falling behind 4-0 the Lee bats got going starting with Bailey Church. The junior catcher started the rally with a two-run double in the fourth. De Adder singled home Lily Hatcher to make it 4-3 in the fifth before Kayla Gooch tied things up in the seventh with a run scoring single.

Shonna Penney (2-6) went the distance for Lee, pitching 6.2 innings. She allowed five runs, but only two were earned.

Noland (3-2) was the winning pitcher after coming on to get the final three outs in the seventh inning. Keehn started and lasted three-plus innings giving up two runs on four hits.

Jenna Goldsmith was 2 for 2 and scored a pair of runs for the home team. Noland also made her presence felt at the dish with two RBI and two walks.

The loss drops the Lady Flames to 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the GSC. The win moves the Tigers to 9-7 and even 2-2 in league play.

Lee will host Shorter University on Wednesday at 3 and 5:30 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader. Due to the unbalanced conference schedule the Lady Flames and Hawks will not play a GSC series this year.
