Flames Fall To Lincoln Memorial, 5-3

Despite three more hits from Thomas Zazzaro the Lee baseball team suffered a 5-3 loss to Lincoln Memorial on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon from Olympic Field.

Chris Salvey swung a big bat for the Railsplitters as he drove in the first run of the game on a RBI double down the left field line. Salvey would bookend the scoring with a solo shot in the seventh to make it 5-2. The senior finished 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Zazzaro delivered three singles, walked and drove in a run for the Flames. The sophomore also tossed 3.1 relief innings, giving up four hits and one run. The Cottonwood, Tenn. native now has nine hits in his last three games and leads the club with a .387 average.

Miguel Pimentel stroked the only extra base hit for Lee with a leadoff double in the fourth but was left stranded.

Michael Hendricks (2-2) got the start for the Flames and pitched 3.2 innings, giving up four runs. Hendricks struck out five but got in trouble with three walks and two hit batsmen. Zazzaro settled things down before giving way to lefty Lance Hamilton and David Pattinson who each pitched scoreless innings out of the pen.

Lee jumped ahead 2-1 in the third inning. Zazzaro singled home Dalton Ney to tie things up at 1-1. The Flames took the lead on a fly ball to center off the bat of Fernando Ortiz that scored Cody Smith. LMU's catcher dropped a perfect strike from the center fielder and was charged with the error after Smith scored on a hard slide.

Nate Stinson put the Railsplitters up for good with a bases clearing single in the fourth inning.

Ben Wiley (1-1) started and went six quality innings to earn the win. Wiley allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out four. Patrick Queener tossed two innings in relief and gave up one run, one hit and three walks. Freshman Devin Morris closed out the game in the ninth to earn his second save of the year.

The Flames fall back to .500 on the year at 7-7 while LMU improves to 10-6. Lee will continue a six-game home stand on Saturday as they open up a three-game series with Urbana University (Ohio) at noon.
