Lady Flames Finish Regular Season with 22 Wins

The Lee women's basketball team closed out their regular season and Senior Night with a 70-52 victory over rival Shorter University inside Walker Arena on Thursday evening. The Lady Flames will take a 22-6 overall mark and 16-4 (GSC) record into conference tournament play next Tuesday when they host Alabama Huntsville.

Lee honored three seniors, Anna Woodford, Tori Lentz and Jenna Scoggins, between the women and men's contest. The team also saluted a student assistant who has been with the club for four years, Tiffany Hudson. "These young ladies have been outstanding leaders on and off the court for our club," said head coach Marty Rowe.

Abby Bertram played less than 20 minutes but still led the Lady Flames with 16 points. Freshman Haley Schubert followed closely with 15 markers and four assists, while Taylor Boggess canned three treys and totaled 13 points to go along with five rebounds. Becca Cheeks added eight points and led the Lady Flames with six rebounds. Woodford concluded her regular season with a pair of 3-pointers and Camryn Grant came off the bench to contribute four points and four boards.

The Lady Flames shot 42 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond the arc. They were awarded only six freebies and made all six. In the win, Lee had 16 assists compared to 14 turnovers.

Raven Fair had 22 points to pace the Lady Hawks. Megan Perry tallied 13 and Jasmine Gaines pitched in with 13. "Fair is one of the best guards in our league and she showed it tonight," noted coach Rowe. Fair converted 5-of-11 3-pointers.

The Lee defense, one of the best in the GSC, held the Lady Hawks to just 30 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent in attempts from 3-point range. They were awarded 17 free throws but converted only 10, plus turning the basketball over 20 times.
