Lee Continues Road Dominance, Tops Falcons 64-56

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The road warriors, also known as the Lee men's basketball team, improved to 7-1 away from Walker Arena with a 64-56 win at Montevallo on Thursday night.

The Flames were in control from the start and held off a late run by the Falcons to secure the road victory. Freshman Quay Kennedy scored a career-high 14 points and hit four 3-pointers to lead the way.

Another freshman, Josh Lowe stepped up with 12 points in just 19 minutes of work and grabbed seven rebounds. Cody Jones hit three triples and had 11 points while Kentrell Evans scored seven points and delivered five assists.

"I thought our guys competed and played really hard. We needed a big production off the bench and I thought Josh Lowe was terrific tonight and grabbed a lot of rebounds and Duke (Evans) gave us a big minutes," said head coach Bubba Smith. "Quay has a knack for hitting big shots, the game is not too big for him, he rebounds well and is really good defender. It was good sign tonight that Ryan (Montgomery) and Colton (Blevins) weren't their best but we still got a significant win on the road."

Lee hit 9 of 18 from beyond the arc and were 25 of 52 (48.1 percent) from the field overall to help secure the victory. Defensively, the Flames limited the Falcons to just 35.3 percent (18 of 51) shooting from the field.

Micah Fuller led the Falcons with 17 points while Wade Lowman added 12 points and nine rebounds. Carl Johnson joined them in double-figures with 11.

The victory moves the Flames to 12-10 overall and 9-5 in the GSC.  The loss drops the Falcons to 9-15 and 5-9 in conference play.

Lee continues a three-game road trip on Saturday as they head down to West Alabama. Opening tip is slated for 5 p.m.

"There the best team in the league right now but I think we match up well and we're looking forward to getting another crack at them after a last second loss back at our place a few weeks back," said Smith when asked about the battle with the Tigers. "Their point guard Hardy is one of the best players in the conference so we will have our hands full but we just have to go out and compete and play with a similar type of energy as we did tonight and the results will come."
