Windermere, Fla. – Thanks to three top 25 individual efforts the No. 22 Lee women's golf team finished tied for fifth at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational from the Golden Bear Club at Keene's Pointe on Tuesday.
The Lady Flames shot a final round 296 to make up ground on the field. Lee finished the 54-hole tournament at 905.
Junior Haverly Harrold rebounded from an opening round 78 to go 2-under (70, 71) in her final two rounds to finish sixth. Junior Annika Gino was solid all tournament with rounds of 75, 73 and 75. Freshman Emily Felix posted her best collegiate round with a 1-under 71 and placed tied for 22
nd.
"Today played tougher than rounds one and two and were able to put together a really good round. I was proud of the way we fought the entire day. We climbed the leaderboard and beat some really good teams," said Lee assistant coach Bernadette Little. "Haverly bounced back and had two big rounds for us. Annika was very solid for us every round. It's always great to see a player break through and that's what Emily did today. She shot her first under par round of her collegiate career and it was fun to see. I was very proud of the effort today."
Florida Tech ran away with the team title after firing a final round 278 for an 868 total. Lynn placed second at 882. Saint Leo followed in third at 898 while Limestone placed fourth with a 902. Florida Southern tied for fifth with the Lady Flames at 905.
Florida Tech's Noelle Beijer over took Tampa's Kira Rihijarvi by one for the medalist title with a final round five-under par 67.
The Lady Flames will get right back to work in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate just up the road in Sevierville, Tenn. The event is hosted by Tennessee Tech and will take place Mar. 17-19.
