Wolves Take Series From Softball with DH Sweep

CARROLLTON, Ga. - An offensive explosion in the fourth inning helped West Georgia take the series over the Lee softball team with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves won game one 5-2 behind the pitching of Katie Foote before scorching the Lady Flames 21-5 in the nightcap. Lee won the opener on Friday evening 7-6 in eight innings.

The Lady Flames fall to 16-21 and 5-12 in the GSC. West Georgia improves to 21-22 and 7-13 in league play. Lee will get back to work on Wednesday as it travels to King University for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.

"We had a shot in the first game and made some poor decisions that led to runs for them," said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "The second game got out of control and with our limited pitching we were left in a bind. We need to play together to have shots at winning. We played isolated today and it showed."

GAME 2
The West Georgia offense got going early and never stopped in rolling to a 21-5 victory in Saturday's nightcap.

Raven Smith led the 19-hit attack with two home runs and six RBI. Hannah Scarbrough was a perfect 4 for 4 with two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Lexie Stohr went 2 for 2 with three RBI and three runs scored.

To put an exclamation point on the 12-run fourth inning Kelsea Elrod delivered a pinch-hit three-run home run.

Lindsye Jefferson pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to improve to 4-3 on the season. She allowed just two hits and struck out three.

Claudia Jones led the Lady Flames at the dish with two hits and five RBI. Jones singled home a pair in the second and hit a three-run home run in the third.

Taylor De Adder (7-7) started for the Lady Flames but failed to make it out of the first allowing three runs on three hits. Stevie Baird was tagged for six runs on seven hits over 1.1 innings. Shonna Penney struggled in the fourth allowing 12 runs, nine earned. Abby McKinney came on to record the final two outs of the inning.

GAME 1
Katie Foote tossed a complete game to the lead the West Georgia Wolves to a 5-2 victory over the Lee softball team in game one of Saturday's Gulf South Conference doubleheader.

The Lady Flames jumped out to an early lead in the second on a RBI single from Kiley Longmire. The Wolves responded with five straight runs over the next three innings to put the game away.

Taylor tied it at 1-1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. Lee would gift wrap the second run of the frame as Ellison stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Henderson made it 3-1 with a four-bagger in the third inning.

The Wolves would chase Lee starter Shonna Penney with two more runs in the fourth. Walker doubled home a run and then scored on a throwing error after stealing third. Penney (6-12) allowed all five runs, three earned, over four innings. Stevie Baird came on in relief and tossed two scoreless innings.

Taylor De Adder doubled and singled and drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh inning to lead the Lee offense. Zoe Miller doubled with one out in the second came around to score on Longmire's single. Lee left eight runners on base in the contest.

Foote (7-5) went all seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits for the Wolves.
